new spin on cricket
with the goal of making cricket more accessible & inclusive, we’ve made modifications to the rules, created new equipment, and modernized naming conventions.
batball unique rules:
batting:
introduction of ‘scoring zones’: 2 runs on the sides + usual 4 & 6 straight
contact with the bat = 1 run
3 misses = out
out also gives the batting team -2 runs
bowling:
introduction of ‘the square’: an area in front of the batter where the ball must bounce (no direct throws or full tosses)
throwing/pitching allowed (no traditional roll of the arm required)
no wides or no balls. if the ball doesn’t land in ‘the square’, you ball it again.
general:
new design of bats, balls & wickets
no powerplays - 30% (or less) of the bowling team can protect the straight-scoring zone
can be played 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, up to 8v8 (depending on the size of the playing area)
can be played anywhere with playing area markers
takes less time, is more fast-paced, and is easier to learn
