object of the game:

  • score more runs than the opps

kick off

Here’s how a match kicks off:

  • Coin Toss: Flip a coin to decide who bats first.

TIP: Flip the bat if you don’t have a coin

  • One team bats while the other bowls and fields.

The first team to bat has 18 balls to score as many runs as they can and set a target for the bowling team.

The bowling team has to restrict the batting team from scoring runs by getting them out and fielding.

  • Each batter bats solo and plays 6 balls each.

  • Bowlers also take turns throwing 6 balls each.

The team with the most runs at the end wins

setup

Batball is super easy to set up.

What you need: bat, ball, wickets & some markers to mark the following:

  • Bowling end - The bowler stands 20m from the batter.

  • Strike zone is 1.8m wide and 10m long

  • Side scoring zones – 20m to the left and right of the wickets.

  • Straight scoring zone – 40m straight ahead.

Tip: You can use cones or ball tape as markers.

batting

Batters score runs by hitting the ball:

1️⃣ Run – Hit the ball with your bat.

2️⃣ Runs – Hit the ball into the side scoring zone (20m left or right).

4️⃣ Runs – Bounce the ball into the straight scoring zone (40m ahead).

6️⃣ Runs – Smash it directly into the straight scoring zone without bouncing.

Rule Check: Points for only one scoring method per hit. Eg. You can either get 1 run or 4 runs on a ball, not both.

Bonus: When a batter is out, their team loses 5 runs. Ouch. 🙃

bowling

🎯 Bowlers must throw the ball so it bounces in the zone in front of the batter. Direct throws must land under the batters knee.

6️⃣ Each player can bowl 6 balls, and then it’s the next player’s turn.

There are 4 ways to take a batter out:

They miss the ball 3 times. Strike out, buddy.

The ball hits the wicket after they miss.

You catch their hit before it touches the ground.

They accidentally hit the wicket while swinging. (Oops.)

Penalty: If a ball doesn’t land in the striking zone or directly lands above the batter’s knee, the bowler must re-bowl, and the batting team earns 1 run.

make it YOUR game

Adjust the rules to suit your vibe and space

Batball is designed to be played by 6 players (3v3) but more the merrier so play with up to 16 players (8v8)

TIP: Add 6️⃣ balls to the game per additional player (in a team)

If you’re playing for fun, adjust the distances based on your space.

Hit it, catch it, love it.
